SALSA accreditation

The ProperMaid brand evolved from a theoretical concept whilst Allison the sole owner of ProperMaid was still studying at university.  It was this project that inspired Allison to make ProperMaid the reality it is today.  ProperMaid was formed one month after graduation in July 2008.   In just over 2 years ProperMaid has built a reputation for producing award winning scrumptious cakes made from locally sourced ingredients which are unmatched and unchallenged by other cake produces.  Its innovative range of cakes includes flavours such as; Chocolate & Beetroot, Dandelion & Burdock (Deliciously Yorkshires best Bakery Product 2009/10) through to the new liquorice cake.  ProperMaid challengers themselves to be able to create flavours to tease and tempt the taste buds of even the most disconcerting of customers

In order to underpin their success ProperMaid decided that achieving SALSA accreditation would be the best indication of their commitment to quality.  ProperMaid engaged the support of Kevin Vaughn from the Regional Food Group to guide them through the SALSA standard and to assist with any compliance issues. 

Over a three month period ProperMaid and its team of maids, worked through all aspects of the business from goods in to the finished baked product. In the beginning all the ladies felt that they needed a secretary to complete all the new written documentation; however it wasn’t too long before it just became a part of their normal working day.

All the ladies at ProperMaid felt that the audit process to be a very positive experience and the auditor gave good advice and views on the business.  The audit was very through and all aspects of the SALSA standard were examined which justified all the hard work that had gone into the food safety manual that had been created.

Allison says: “As we are newly SALSA approved it is difficult to assess how it has helped our business at this stage.  However, what we do know is that being salsa approved means that we are now able to demonstrate that we are a competent & quality supplier and will give us more confidence & credibility when pitching for new business”.

In honour of our Salsa accreditation we have just recently developed a Salsa cake which is due to be launched later this year.
