Propermaid at the heart of the community
We are delighted to support the Methodist Mission Welcome Centre in Huddersfield, by providing excess bakery products to their Cafe. The Centre, based at Lord Street aims to improve the quality of life of individuals experiencing extremely disadvantaged situations in the local community by providing a range of practical supports.
This initiative complements our free cake supply to the “WomenCentre”, a registered charity based in the heart of the Pennines in West Yorkshire with a mission to improve the quality of life for women both locally and nationally. As an organisation they have nearly 50 years experience of women’s issues and women’s lives. They deliver, develop and promote holistic, one-stop-shop services from centre and community based settings which enable women to address often multiple needs and aspirations. Visitors can enjoy a ProperMaid cake in the Halifax Silver Street “Petite Cafe”.

Of course, we didn’t let him leave without a scrumptious selection of our cakes!
ProperMaid becomes a “force” to be reckoned with!
We’re extremely proud to announce that our traditional cakes with a twist have won the hearts of our serving soldiers, and are being shipped all over the world this month to the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes’ (NAAFI) bases.
Our delicious cakes will be on offer to troops in the NAAFI’s coffee shops, which will include our unusual Liquorice Cake, Beetroot and White Chocolate Cake and of course our award-winning Dandelion and Burdock Cake for a proper slice of Yorkshire!
Serving soldiers in Germany and Northern Ireland are currently being offered our “Cake of the Month” – a mouth watering orange and almond Battenberg. The company will be shipping out its full range of cakes from April; extending the deal to cover service personnel as far away as the Falklands and the front line in Afghanistan.
It is really heartening to know that our cakes are bringing soldiers a sweet slice of home, all the way across the world.
Can’t cook dragon breathes fire into ProperMaid
Proper Maid have bitten off a slice of venture capital from Deborah Meaden, after our Christmas Dinner cake won her over in a festive Dragons’ Den Christmas Special.
The cake, which contains carrots, parsnips, cranberries, Christmas spices, chestnuts and sprouts, impressed the dragons to the extent that two made offers to invest the company.
“This is the next stage in the massive revival of great British baking and Allison is a tremendous example of how entrepreneurs with great ideas, excellent products, a sound business model and the passion and drive to succeed can quickly make a difference in business, as well as in their local communities”, said Meaden.
“Together we’ll achieve great things for ProperMaid and the team is already working on a slimming cake to help shed those post Xmas pounds – I’d imagine everyone will want a slice of that!”
